Crazy Predictions That Actually Came True
Sometimes, some forecasting sound so unrealistic to believe. Surfing through the net, I saw much forecasting that was made as far back as 200 years before they came through. Funniest enough, some of this seems stupid and seems never possible to come true. Business Insider India (2021) discusses a lot of these predictions that sounded crazy but actually came through. The Simpsons show has been known for hard-to-believe predictions that came through. Redkar (2023) discusses some of these Simpsons’ predictions, both famous and unfamous. One of them is a 2015 episode of the series that featured Homer Simpson as “Trump 2024” predicting Trump would want to run the presidential race during the 2024 elections. Just last year, Trump announced his intentions to run for the 2024 presidential elections.
The historical prediction that sounded crazy but
actually came true, which I have chosen to discuss, is the periodic table of the
elements. In 1863, the periodic table had only 60 elements when Dmitri
Mendeleev, a Russian chemist, designed a periodic table that looks almost like
what we have today, 160 years after (Business Insider India, 2021). Some of the
forces that support this prediction are analytical and technological forces. Dmitri
organized the elements and them using their atomic weights and some other
properties. This led to pattern discovery, which unveiled some gaps in the
periodic table. These gaps were filled following the discovered patterns, and
more than 40 elements were added to the designed periodic table. One of the
elements that Dmitri foresaw in 1863 is “germanium” which was later discovered
in 1986 (Business Insider India, 2021). One could imagine what the people were thinking
about this prediction then. Who could have believed that such a prediction would
come to pass after nearly 200 years?
Funny enough, it is not only humans who make crazy
predictions that come true; animals also do. An example is the psychic
cephalopod Paul the Octopus, who predicted Germany's 2010 World Cup matches correctly
(Business Insider India, 2021). The octopus first showcased his predictive
powers in 2008 when he predicted 4 out of 6 Euro matches correctly. He has then
made several correct predictions like Spain being the winner of the 2010 FIFA
World Cup final and Germany getting the third place in the play-off win over
Uruguay in July 2010 (Business Insider India, 2021).
